The School
Halstow Primary School is a community school maintained by Greenwich Council. It is an impressive three storey Victorian building built in 1893.
It is a mixed school, taking girls and boys, from the ages of 4 years to 11 years. There are 45 places in every year group and classes are vertically grouped, comprising of a mixture of two year groups. The school is organised as follows:
- Reception: One age group in two classes
- Three classes of mixed years – 15 year 1 children, 15 year 2 children – 30 in each class
- Three classes of mixed years - 15 year 3 children, 15 year 4 children – 30 in each class.
- Three classes of mixed years - 15 year 5 children, 15 year 6 children – 30 in each class.
This is hugely beneficial to children as it ensures that learning is personalised; that children are taught to their need and not simply to their age.
